The conception of a career. 2012 B.Nenortaite The conception of a career • Career is a process of the work-related experience that lasts throughout a person’s life. There are different understandings of a career: • One related to the specific activity, • Another – to the planning of a life way and the implementation and assessment of this way. The conception of a career • Career – a life-long sequence of learning and work- related experiences. • Career management – a process of planning the sequence of working and learning experiences, coordination with other spheres of life, as well as a process of the implementation and control. Career is – • a constant rise in positions associated with the increased salary and a higher status; • Finding a pleasant work regardless of its salary and status. 4 • Vertical career – when an employee climbs the career ladder within one organization. • Horizontal career – when an employee is offered to go to an equivalent job in another branch of the company. – a radical career change and the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and experience. In a career, there is assessed the employees’ ability to adapt and their multi-faceted experience rather than the employees’ specialization. Kintanti karjeros samprata • Employees often feel insecure about their future in the organization. • Complete security for workers cannot be achieved, it can only be aspirational. • An employee’s insecurity increases with the rise of the environmental changes and the organization's internal changes. Career is influenced by rapid changes in the world: • Economic, • Political, • Technological, • Cultural. Are you afraid of changes? You need to understand the changes that affect the employer-employee relationship. You need to choose a path that would ensure the best adaptation to the circumstances. Organizations do not want to be responsible for the employee's career and its management. What does an employer want from you? • Organisations need people able to keep up with frequent changes. • Organisation need employees responsible for their own career and actively resorting to manage it. • A psychological transaction becomes decisive, i.e. a whole of practical and emotional expectations between the employee and the employer.
